ACAS v BSDAS Taylor's Car Park Lake

7th December 2022

We fished our December inter club competition with Bishops Stortford on the Car Park Lake at Taylor’s. After weeks of mild weather running up to the match temperatures plummeted to near zero on the day, resulting in it being a really tough time for those taking part. For those who caught it was mostly small roach, although one decent bream was weighed in. Bishop’s Stortford made the most of the challenging conditions and had an easy win with 84 points to our 45. That brought an end to our 7 match winning run. They also had the top three individuals, with Steve Foster 1st weighing in 4lbs 7ozs, Ray Gibson was 2nd with 3lbs 9ozs and Tony Cruci 3rd with 12ozs.

Ken Man Trophy Taylor's Lake

6th November 2022

The Ken Mann Trophy was fished at Taylor’s on the Top Lake. Turnout was down on our usual numbers, probably due to the heavy rain that continued pretty much throughout the day. Taylor’s never seems to fish well during, or after heavy rain and this match proved to be no exception to that rule. A number of F1’s were caught, but surprisingly no bream showed. 1St on the day was Tony Smith with 16lbs 1oz, Peter Green was 2nd with 12lbs 3ozs and Barry Cornell was 3rd with 4lbs 7ozs.

ACAS v BSDAS Beggar's Hall

2nd November 2022

Our latest midweek inter club match was fished on Bishop’s Stortford’s Beggar’s Hall Lake. Despite the recent large amounts of rain, the water levels on the lake were still very low. Conditions on the day were also difficult with a blustery south east breeze. As is usual on this lake it was down to waiting for the odd decent carp or two, plus a few odd silver fish. Team wise it was a close run affair with Abbey Cross just coming out on top with 62 point to Stortford’s 58. Individually, Rob Beeston was top with 35lbs 5ozs, Ray Gibson was 2nd with 35lbs 1oz and John Carter 3rd with 18lbs 6ozs.

OUSE TROPHY BOX END FARM RIVER OUSE

23rd October 2022

The club’s stretch of the River Ouse at Box End Farm was the venue for our Ouse Trophy compwtition. Despite having had a lot of rain in advance of the match, the river was in good condition with reasonable flow, a tinge of colour and not too much weed. On the day we all caught fish, with some decent roach showing. I had top weight with 6lbs 11ozs,  Alan Sims was 2nd with 4lbs 11ozs and Bob Walmsley was 3rd with 3lbs 9ozs. This match was also the final of the club knockout competition, with myself 1st, Bob Walmsley 2nd & Alan Fox 3rd.

John Duff Cup Silver Fish

Hunter's Hall 9th October 2022

This match was fished at Hunter’s Hall and had been arranged as a silver fish only competition. Conditions were again quite challenging due to strong breeze blowing in various directions around the lake. However, there were reasonable numbers of silver fish caught from around the lake. A few tench were also caught, but they did not count under the format for this match. I had top weight on the day with 12lbs, Tony Smith was 2nd with 9lbs and Alan Fox was 3rd with 8lbs 12ozs.

ACAS v BSDAS

Taylor's Top Lake 5th October 2022

Our October inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. On the day conditions were made difficult by a strong south westerly wind that made pole fishing very challenging. There were a number of decent bream and F1’s caught, mostly from the more sheltered pegs.  Team wise Abbey Cross had an easy win scoring 83 points to Bishop’s Stortford’s 54 points. Individually Alan Sims had a top weight of 31lbs 10ozs, I was 2nd with 26lbs 13ozs and Phil Whitmill of Bishop’s Stortford 3rd with 7lbs 6ozs.

RIVER CUP RIVER BURE COLTISHALL

18th SEPTEMBER 2022

For our Norfolk weekend we had planned to fish both days at St Benet’s Abbey on the River Bure. However, there had been a number of very high tides prior to our arrival and this pushed the fish upstream away from the salty water. Due to this we abandoned our Saturday match and moved upstream for a pleasure session. On the Sunday we managed to find a stretch to fish above the tidal reaches of the Bure at Coltishall and although the fishing wasn’t great we all at least managed a reasonable days sport. I had the top weight with 8lbs 10ozs, Doug Clark was 2nd with 6lbs 12ozs and Bob Fox 3rd with 5lbs 8ozs.

Club Match

Taylor's Car Park Lake 11th September 2022

Our latest club match was fished on the Car Park Lake at Taylor’s. The weather was pretty good with a light breeze and quite overcast. Unfortunately, there was an algae bloom on part of the lake which made things difficult for some. Most weights were made up of roach, rudd & perch, with only one decent F1 being caught. I had top weight on the day with 9lbs 9ozs, Jo Smith was 2nd with 5lbs 4ozs & Barry Cornell was 3rd with 4lbs 2ozs.

ACAS Ladies Match – Hunter’s Hall

18th September 2022

Hunter’s Hall was the venue for our first ladies match. With autumn knocking on the door, it was a chilly start to the day with a strong breeze picking up in the afternoon bringing the temperature down. A few tench and bream were weighed in but the majority of fish were silvers.
Everyone enjoyed the match and hope to have a few more in the future.

 Fred Sandland Cup Hunter's Hall

21st August 2022

Our latest competition, The Fred Sandland Cup, was fished on our club lake at Hunter’s Hall. Fortunately, we finally got some cooler weather for the match and unusually for Hunter’s Hall there was very little wind. Unfortunately, the change in conditions didn’t lead to an improvement in the fishing and the lakes bream and tench proved hard to find. A change to fishing for the roach and rudd part way through the match enabled me to get top weight with 27lbs 2ozs, Willy Ramthor was 2nd with 11lbs 10ozs and Bob Walmsley  was 3nd with 10lbs 15ozs.

17th August 2022

This match was the 2nd leg of our annual inter club competition with METVETS. The venue for the match was METVETS own club water at Wrotham Park. This is a very shallow estate lake, that has a large head of decent sized carp. On the day METVETS local knowledge really paid off and they had an easy win scoring 86 points to our 44 points. Individually, Martin Barsby of METVETS was 1st with 72lbs 12ozs, Keith Goulden also of METVETS was 2nd with 65-5-0, while Jo Smith of Abbey Cross was 3rd with 55-4-0.

The annual Memorial Match is held in memory of club members who are no longer with us and this year was fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. The ongoing hot weather and the prolific weed growth in the Top Lake made it hard going for those taking part. However, there were some decent bream caught, plus the odd tench and F1. I had the top weight on the day with a weight of 18lbs 14ozs, Willy Ramthor was 2nd with 9lbs 13ozs and Bob Walmsley was 3rd with 7lbs 5ozs.

ACAS v BSDAS Nazeing Car Park Lake

3rd August 2022

Our August inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished on the Car Park lake at Nazeing. We had a blustery south easterly breeze blowing across the lake to contend with, which made float fishing challenging. Despite this there were some reasonable weights of carp caught from the more sheltered areas. Team wise Abbey Cross came out on top scoring 73 points, while Bishop’s Stortford totalled 57 points. Individually, Terry Moranda of Bishop’s Stortford came 1st  with  65lbs 3ozs, Peter Green was 2nd with 63lbs 12ozs and Ray Gibson was 3rd with 46lbs 2ozs.

CARP CUP & ATG CUP

NAZEING CAR PARK LAKE 24TH JULY 2022

This match was fished on the Car Park Lake at Nazeing. It was a warm day, but with an awkward stiff southerly breeze blowing across the lake. Fortunately, the resident carp were keen to feed in the favoured areas and there were some excellent weights. Top on the day was Kevin Shaw with 171lbs 9ozs, Peter Green was 2nd with 119lbs 11ozs and I was 3rd with 71lbs 6ozs. We also fished for ATG Trophy which is for the biggest carp caught on the day, this was won by John Carter with a fish of 17lbs 7ozs.

BBQ Match Pairs & Lil' Williams Trophy Taylor's 16th July 2022

There was a very good turnout for this year’s BBQ match, we had 18 pairs and 10 singles fishing, spread over the two lakes at Taylor’s. We had another dozen attending who came along for the BBQ in the evening. On the day the weather very hot with temperatures in the 30’s, great for a BBQ , but not so good for the fishing. The pairs event was won by Jean & Peter Green with a combined weight of 8lbs 1oz, Shane & Steve Miles were 2nd  with 6lbs and Kelly & Mark Ramthor were 3rd with 5lbs 12ozs. In the individual event Alan Fox was 1st with 4lbs 15ozs, Paul Sales was 2nd with 2lbs and Danny Ives was 3rd with 1lbs 15ozs. The Lil Williams Trophy for the best weight by a lady member was won by Shane Miles with 5lbs 11ozs. The evening BBQ food and drinks were excellent and everyone had an enjoyable time.  Finally, a big thank you to all those club members who put in a lot of effort to make the event  a success.

Our latest inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished at Hunter’s Hall. Turnout on theses matches is normally good, however numbers for this match were down due to holidays, illness etc. Conditions were good with a slight breeze on the lake, however it fished quite hard, with the usual tench and bream hard to find. Proudlove Cup Hunter's Hall

8th May 2022

This year’s Proudlove Cup was fished at the clubs Hunter’s Hall fishery. Similar to the match a few days earlier at Beggars Hall the warmer weather led to the fish being more interested in getting ready for spawning, rather than taking anglers baits. There were a few tench and bream weighed in, but we all struggled for bites and even the normally prolific silver fish were hard to find.  Top weight on the day was recorded by Alan Fox with 19lbs 5ozs, I was 2nd with 13lbs 5ozs and Jo Smith was 3rd with 9lbs 13ozs.

ACAS v BSDAS Hunter's Hall

04 May 2022

Our latest inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished on their Beggars Hall Lake. This lake is primarily stocked with good sized carp and with the recent spell of warmer weather they were more interested in getting ready for spawning, rather than feeding.  While most of us struggled for bites there were a few good weights from the favoured pegs. Burrough's Cup Taylor's Top Lake

10th April 2022

The Top Lake at Taylor’s was the venue for this event. A few days earlier on the inter club match the lake had fished well with good numbers of bream and F1’s being caught, so hopes were high that it would again produce plenty of fish. Officers Cup Taylor's Top Lake

6th March 2022

The Officer’s Cup is traditionally fished as our last competition of the season and this year it was fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. All members are welcome to take part, but the trophy is awarded to the highest placed club officer. After many weeks in the doldrums the warmer weather did lead to some better weights, although there was still a number of blanks.  Top on the day was Peter Green with a weight of 28lbs 4ozs, Alan Sims was 2nd with 24lbs 4ozs and I was 3rd with 23lbs 14ozs. So, the Officer’s Cup went to Peter Green. This was also the final round of the Knockout Competition, this was won by myself, with Bob Fox the runner up.

ACAS v BSDAS Taylor's Top Lake

2nd February 2022

Our February inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished on the Top lake at Taylor’s. Fortunately the weather had turned a little warmer than it had been on our recent visits to Taylor’s and consequently a few more fish were caught. Most of the weights were F1’s with a couple of bream and one tench also weighed in. Team wise it was a good result for Abbey Cross who had a winning score of 71 points to Bishop’s Stortford’s 50 points.  Individually, I had top weight with 18lbs 12ozs, Ken Farrell was 2nd with 7lbs 15ozs and Barry Cornell  was 3rd with 5lbs 15ozs.

Ron Wise Trophy

Taylor's Lake 16th January 2022

This match was fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. Following several cold nights we were we arrived at Taylor’s to find much of the lake covered in a thin layer of ice. So before starting to fish it was case of breaking and clearing the ice for most of us. With water temperatures so low it proved to be a real struggle to get any fish to feed and we ended up with most of us failing to catch. Of those who did catch Jeff Pearson had top weight with 13lbs 2ozs, Tony Parker was 2nd with 8lbs 8ozs, Willy Ramthor was 3rd with 2lbs 2ozs and Peter Green, the only other angler to weigh in, was 4th with 2lbs.

ACAS v BSDAS
Malcolm Barker Lake 5th January 2022

Our latest inter club match was fished on Bishops Stortford’s Malcolm Barker lake. With the ongoing cold spell all the predictions before the start were that the match was going to be hard going and that was the way it turned out. Both teams struggled to catch with only 7 of the 14 anglers competing weighing in. Unfortunately for us Bishop’s Stortford had the majority of the catches and were easy winners with 53 points to our 25. Individually Alan Sims had top weight with 6lbs 13ozs, John Todd of Bishop’s Stortford was 2nd with 1lbs 9ozs and Fred Hunt also of Bishop’s Stortford was 3rd with 1lbs 2oz.

Reg Brayne Trophy
R. Stort Backstream 2nd January 2022

Our first match of the new year was fished on a backwater of the River Stort owned by the Bishops Stortford club. The backwater runs just behind our lakes at Taylor’s and has residential  canal boats moored on the far bank for most of its length. On the day the backwater had reasonable flow, but was quite clear. Most people caught small roach on a variety of baits, plus there was a very good chub and a  decent perch weighed in. First on the day was Jo Smith who included a 4lbs 13oz chub in her 5lbs 1oz winning weight, Bob Fox was 2nd  with 3lbs 2ozs, and Willy Ramthor was 3rd with 1lbs 8ozs.
