Gaye Plate Xmas Match Taylor's Top Lake

Our annual Xmas match was fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. The poor weather on the day had a big impact on the turnout, with 10 anglers braving the conditions to take part. The fishing unsurprisingly was very tough, with just four people weighing in. Top weight went to Jeff Pearson with 5lbs 4ozs, Peter Green was 2nd with 4lbs 7ozs, Willy Ramthor was 3rd with 3lbs 7ozs and Dave Sellick was 4th with 2ozs. In the evening we reconvened at the Prince of Wales in Cheshunt with our partners and guests for the prize giving and a celebratory meal. Thanks to Willy Ramthor for organising the pre match drinks and snacks, and the Xmas meal and prizes.

Ken Mann Trophy Taylor's Lake

The Ken Mann Trophy was fished at Taylor’s on the Top Lake. We had a good turnout for the match with 15 angler’s taking part. However, conditions were far from ideal with the lake being very clear and high, this was due to the recent very rainy weather. Taylor’s never seems to fish well after heavy rain and most of us struggled to catch numbers of fish. 1St on the day was Darren Marder with 19lbs 6oz, Peter Green was 2nd with 10lbs 1ozs and Dave Sellick was 3rd with 5lbs 5ozs.

Our latest inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished on their club lake at Beggars Hall. It is well known for its good sized carp and fortunately these were in a feeding mood for the match, leading to most of those taking part having at least a couple of decent sized fish. Team wise it was an comfortable win for Abbey Cross with 95 points, with Bishop’s Stortford scoring 75 points. Individually, Peter Green was top with 61lbs 8ozs, John Carter was 2nd with 39lbs 15ozs and Jeff Pearson was 3rd with 32lbs 12ozs.

OUSE TROPHY
TAYLOR'S CAR PARK LAKE 22ND OCTOBER 2023

The club’s stretch of the River Ouse at Box End Farm was the proposed venue for our Ouse Trophy competition. Unfortunately, heavy rain in the days leading up to the match meant the river was over its banks, so we had a late transfer of the match to the Car Park Lake at Taylor’s. For most of us it was tough going at Taylor’s although John Carter did have a good bag of quality fish. John had top weight with 26lbs 6ozs, Alan Fox was 2nd with 5lbs and Jo Smith was 3rd with 2lbs 4ozs.

John Duff Cup Silver Fish

This match was fished at Hunter’s Hall and was arranged as a silver fish only competition, tench & carp not allowed. As with the inter club match a few days earlier the weather was still unseasonably mild, with virtually no wind and again the fishing was quite difficult, although there were a couple of decent bags of bream caught. Dave Marder was 1st on the day with 38lbs 2ozs, Stuart Curtis was 2nd with 20lbs 6ozs and I was 3rd with 13lbs 14ozs.

ACAS v BSDAS Taylor's Top Lake

Our October inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. The weather was exceptionally mild for the time of year with a very light breeze. The lake has fished well throughout the summer, but the abnormal weather appeared to impact the fish and they were not in a feeding mode. Team wise Abbey Cross had a very easy win scoring 100 points to Bishop’s Stortford’s 68 points. Individually Abbey Cross had the top five individuals with Jeff Pearson having top weight of 16lbs 7ozs, Peter Green was 2nd with 16lbs 2ozs and John Carter was 3rd with 8lbs 8ozs.

ACAS Ladies Match
Hunters Hall 17 September 2023
Our 2nd ladies match this year took place at Hunters Hall. There were only a few of us and after a look at the lake we decided to use pegs 8 – 10 as there were fish showing in this area. The weather was still warm, mostly overcast with intermittent sunny spells and a downpour just 5 minutes from the end of the match. Swim 9 was the most active on the day followed by 10 then 8.

RIVER CUP RIVER BURE ST BENETS ABBEY
17th SEPTEMBER 2023

For our Norfolk weekend trip we fished St Benet’s Abbey on the River Bure on both days. Fortunately, we didn’t encounter the tide problems that we had last year. Although, there was a noticeable shortage of the quality bream and roach that we have caught on previous visits there were plenty of small fish to catch. On Saturday Stuart Curtis came out on top with 15lbs 1oz, I was 2nd with 14lbs 14ozs and Willy Ramthor was 3rd with 8lbs 4ozs. On Sunday I had the top weight with 13lbs 6ozs, Stuart Curtis was 2nd with 8lbs 11ozs and Bob Fox 3rd with 7lbs 14ozs.

Our latest inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was supposed to be held at their Malcom Barker Lake, however due to excessive weed growth it was moved to Hall Farm. This lake had been fishing well in the lead up to our match and fortunately the good form continued, with over 400lbs of fish weighed in. Team wise Bishop’s Stortford gained a narrow win with 69 points to our 67 points. Individually, I was 1st with 68lbs 11ozs, Steve Foster of Bishop’s Stortford was 2nd 42lbs 7ozs and Ray Calderton, also of Bishop’s Stortford, was 3rd with 35lbs 5ozs.

This year’s Fred Sandland Cup was fished on our club lake at Hunter’s Hall. On the day we had to contend with a difficult blustery breeze, along with bright sunshine, both of which contributed to it being quite a hard day. Weights were well down on recent matches with the resident bream and tench proving hard to find. I had top on the day with 21lbs 2ozs, Alan Fox was 2nd with 15lbs 13ozs and Bob Fox was 3nd with 15lbs 9ozs.

The annual Memorial Match is held in memory of club members who are no longer with us and was fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. The lake has been fishing well recently and this trend continued for the match, with decent weights of bream, F1’s and tench coming from around the lake. Peter Green had top weight on the day with 51lbs 3ozs, Jeff Pearson was 2nd with 30lbs 4ozs and John Carter was 3rd with 26lbs 10ozs.

Our August inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished on the Car Park lake at Nazeing. The breezy hot weather made it hard going for most of us taking part, with float fishing being particularly challenging. Despite this there were some reasonable weights from the more sheltered areas. Team wise it was a very close run thing with Abbey Cross just coming out on top 63 points, with Bishop’s Stortford totalling 62 points. Individually, John Carter came 1st with 103lbs 8ozs, I was 2nd with 59lbs 10ozs and Ray Gibson of Bishop’s Stortford was 3rd with 38lbs 7ozs.

This match was fished on the Car Park Lake at Nazeing. It was a very windy day, with occasional showers, making bait presentation difficult for all. Consequently, weights were well down on previous year’s results. Top on the day was Kevin Shaw with 81lbs 12ozs, I was 2nd with 32lbs 2ozs and Peter Green was 3rd with 30lbs 5ozs. We also fishing for for ATG Trophy which is awarded for the biggest carp caught on the day, this was won by Peter Green with a fish of 20lbs 14ozs.

BBQ Match Pairs & Lil' Williams Trophy

Despite the near gale force winds we still had a good turnout for this year’s BBQ match with 13 pairs and 8 singles taking part. The fishing on the Top Lake for the pairs event was pretty good with plenty of decent weights. Michelle & Stuart Prosser were 1st with 24lbs 13ozs, Jean & Peter Green were 2nd with 23lbs 7ozs and Sue Ramthor & Bob Fox were 3rd with 22lbs 10ozs. In the individual event on the Car Park Lake weights were lower, but everyone still weighed in. Dave Sellick was 1st with 10bs 15ozs, Colin Garner was 2nd with 4lbs 15ozs and Dan Marder was 3rd with 3lbs 11ozs. The Lil Williams Trophy for the best weight by a lady member was won by Sue Ramthor with 7lbs 15ozs. The evening BBQ food and drinks were excellent and everyone had an enjoyable time. Finally, a big thank you to all those club members who put in a lot of effort to make the event a success.

Our 2nd ladies match took place at Hunters Hall. The weather was perfect for Hunters, slightly overcast with an occasional drop of rain with a slight breeze in the afternoon. As there were only a few of us we decided to have our match using the swims on the dam and fish deep water or the reeds close in. Fish were showing straight away attacking the feeder on the drop, with Roach, Rudd, Bream and Tench all being caught. Swim 14 being the most active on the day followed by 13 and then 12.

Our latest inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished at their Hall Farm Lake. The lake had been fishing well in the lead up to our match and fortunately the good form continued, with over 500lbs of fish weighed in by those taking part. Team wise Abbey Cross came out on top scoring 74 points to Bishop’s Stortford 61. Individually, Abbey Cross took three of the top five weights, I was 1st with 71lbs 9ozs, John Carter was 2nd with 56lbs 4ozs and Jeff Pearson was 4th with 40lbs 15ozs.

Hunter’s Hall was the chosen venue for this year’s Paul Sales Cup, we were also competing for the Tench Cup which is awarded for the biggest weight of tench caught on the day. Conditions were breezy but extremely hot, with it being one of the hottest days of the year so far. Despite the heat there were some decent weights of bream, tench & silver fish. Jo Smith won the day with 27bs 10ozs, I was 2nd with 27lbs 1oz and Jeff Pearson was 3rd with 18lbs 9ozs. The Tench Cup was won by Jason Venis with 14lbs 10ozs.

Our venue for this year’s Fishpools Trophy was the Car Park Lake at Taylor’s. It was a scorching hot day with very little wind, which didn’t help the fishing. Despite this it was good to see some of the recently stocked tench, bream and rudd being caught. It was a very close run thing for top weight with my 13lbs 3ozs just beating John Carter’s 13lbs 2ozs. Peter Green was 3rd with 11bs 13ozs.

This was first leg of our two match inter club event with METVETS, fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. Conditions on the day were pretty good with quite a few F1’s and bream being caught from various areas around the venue. Team wise Abbey Cross came out on top 46 points to METVETS 33 points. Individually Peter Green had the top weight with 31lbs 3ozs, Andy Hardy was 2nd with 25lbs 4ozs and Graham Pearce was 3rd with 22lbs 7ozs.

This match was fished at Hunter’s Hall and despite the cool and breezy conditions the lake fished pretty well, with three weights of over 30lbs being caught. The resident bream & tench showed from various pegs around the lake, plus plenty of silver fish were also caught. Tony Smith had top weight with 35lbs 6ozs, I was 2nd with 31lbs 15ozs and Alan Fox was 3rd with 31lbs 8ozs.

Our latest inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished at Hunter’ Hall and there was a good turnout with 18 anglers fishing. Despite the cool north easterly breeze the lake fished pretty well with Plenty of bream, plus a few tench showing. Team wise it was a very close run affair on points and total weight, however Bishop’s Stortford just came out on top with 87 points to our 84. Individually Peter Green had top weight with 30lbs 7ozs, Bill Beeston was 2nd with 20lbs 11ozs and Tony Parker was 3rd with 17lbs 8ozs.

Carrington Cup Cokenach

This year’s Carrington Cup was held on a small estate lake near Barley. The lake is principally a carp syndicate water, but we were invited to fish there for the good numbers of rudd, roach and perch that are present. The lake proved to be quite shallow and very weedy, it also contained a lot of pike, these proved to be a real nuisance when catching the silver fish. I had top weight on the day with 14lbs 11ozs, Jeff Pearson was 2nd with 10lbs 7ozs and Mark Fox was 3rd with 7lbs 15ozs.

Our latest inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished at Beggars Hall. This is one of Bishop’s Stortford’s club lakes and is well known for its good sized carp. In the match decent numbers of carp were caught from the favoured pegs. However, for those not catching carp it was tough going. Team wise it was an comfortable win for Bishop’s Stortford who had 61 points to our 41. Individually, Steve Foster was top with 53lbs 5ozs, Dave Fuller was 2nd with 47lbs 13ozs and Jeff Pearson was 3rd with 43lbs 7ozs.

ACAS v BSDAS Taylor's Top Lake

Our April inter club match with Bishop’s Stortford was fished on the Top Lake at Taylor’s. Following on from the club match a few days earlier Taylor’s again fished pretty well and there were a number of decent bream and F1’s caught, mostly from the more favoured pegs. Team wise things were very close with Bishop’s Stortford just winning with 69 points to our 66. Individually I came top with 34-6-0, John Todd was 2nd with 33lbs 4ozs and Alan Sims was 3rd with 25lbs 6ozs.

Burrough's Cup Taylor's Top Lake

The Top Lake at Taylor’s was the venue for the Burrough’s Cup, our first match of the new season. After many weeks of low weights in our competitions a few days of warmer weather made all the difference. With good numbers of bream and F1’s being caught from around the lake. Top on the day was John Carter with 38lbs 5ozs, Tony Smith was 2nd with 31-14-0 and I was 3rd with 27-11-0.

Officers Cup Taylor's Top Lake

The recent milder weather led to some better catches on the Top Lake at Taylor’s for this seasons Officer’s Cup. Most of the weighs were made up of F1’s, plus a few odd silver fish. Top weight on the day was Alan Fox who weighed in with 25lbs 11ozs, John Carter was 2nd with 19lbs 14ozs and I was 3rd with 17lbs 12ozs. Alan Fox won the Officers Cup as the top officer of the club taking part in the match.

ACAS v BSDAS Hall Farm

Our latest inter club match was fished at Bishop’s Stortford Hall Farm lake. This was always going to be a tough day, with a very cold north easterly wind blowing down the lake. You can usually rely on the carp and F1’s on this water to feed at some time during the day. Unfortunately, this was far from the case this time with all of us struggling for bites in the windy conditions. Team wise Bishops Stortford came out on top with 57 points to our 32. Individually, they also took the top three places with Steve Foster 1st with 26lbs 8ozs, Terri Moranda 2nd with 7lbs 7ozs and Fred Hunt 3rd with 3lbs 8ozs.

Our latest inter club match was fished on Bishops Stortford’s Hall Farm lake. With the recent cold spell having coming to an end it was hoped that we would have a decent days sport. However, a very strong blustery wind made the fishing far from easy, although we all did at least weigh in. Team wise Bishop’s Stortford had a comfortable win scoring 75 points to our 61. Individually the weights for the top five were very close with Alan Sims achieving top weight with 23lbs 8ozs, Bill Beeston of Bishop’s Stortford was 2nd with 21lbs 14ozs and Terry Moranda also of Bishop’s Stortford 3rd with 20lbs 12ozs.

Reg Brayne Trophy River Stort Backstream

Our first match of the new year was fished on a backwater of the River Stort, close to Taylor’s, which owned by the Bishops Stortford club. At the start of the day the flow and colour were good, but heavy rain during the morning led to a lot of debris and dirty water entering the river, which severely limited catches in the afternoon. Top on the day was myself with 3lbs 10ozs, Alan Fox was 2nd 2lbs 11ozs and Jo Smith was 3rd with 1lbs 13ozs.
